Guardsman Karl Whittle dies from wounds sustained in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Guardsman Karl Whittle from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham on Friday 7 September 2012 from wounds sustained in Afghanistan.

Guardsman Whittle sustained gunshot wounds when his checkpoint was attacked by insurgents in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province on 14 August 2012.

    My condolences to you, buddies, Ministry of Defence and loved ones of Guardsman karl Whittle, the last Afghanistan’s heroe. He surely is on the arms of The Fathers, and this done us serenity. Also he live for ever on our hearts, that are his homes. You are ever with us, karl. Claudio alpaca

    OUR LOSS – HEAVENS GAIN. OUR THOUGHTS OF COURSE WITH THE FAMILY OF THIS COUREGOUS YOUNG SOLDIER WHO HAS PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE. HIS WORDS ‘JUST DOING MY JOB’ TELLS US WHAT SORT OF MAN HE WAS. WE WILL THANK HIM FOR ALL HE HAS CARRIED OUT IN HIS RESPONSIVE ACTIONS FOR THIS COUNTRY AND TO ENSURE OUR SAFETY. WE SALUTE YOU GUARDSMAN KARL. FROM THE MO AND JO TEAM SOMERSET

    It is difficult to find consoling words for the loss of Karl Whittle. One can only imagine the blow to his family, friends and those who served alongside him. In a week that saw the passing of Sergeant Lee Davidson there is much to be sad about. RIP Karl, your sacrifice will be remembered.
