On 1 July 2012, all three were part of a patrol to a checkpoint known as Kamparack Pul to help organise a meeting (shura) with the local detachment of Afghan National Civil Order Police. Having completed their task and on leaving the compound, they were attacked by small arms fire and fatally wounded. They were based in Forward Operating Base Ouellette in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province, Afghanistan.

My condolences buddies, Ministry of Defence and loved ones of brothers killed on Afghanistan. Also, or best, more than on other conditions, we have the certainity they are on the arms of The Father, who has embraced them. They now are praying for us and asking “Be not sad, as we now are on the second phase of the live:the eternity”. claudio alpaca

I will never forget a brief encounter with this brave soldier’s brave wife/partner on Helvellyn as she marked the first anniversary of his sad parting. I feel I may have unintentionally pried into a very private moment for her and for that, I am most sorry. Her tears tore my heart and I feel compelled to write this comment. Our forces are heroes but so also are their nearest and dearest.
You were touching in your dignity.
    Gordon.
    We Will Remember Them.
