Project weans Afghan farmers off poppy growing

A teaching farm is helping to win the battle against poppy growing in Helmand by finding profitable alternatives for the farmers who grow it.

Based in Gereshk it aims to demonstrate best practice for growing crops and looking after livestock, helping farmers bring in more money. Improved security has made possible the first in aseries of teaching days which saw farmers from across the district attend in force. With 85 percent of the population farming based it is set to be a huge success.

Charlotte Cross of BFBS recently visited Gereshk where she reports on the progress being made.
