The Afghan Saffron farmers

As Afghan farmers are busy preparing for the poppy harvest, making a profit that will help fund the Insurgency; a significant number of  farmers in the region of Herat are turning away from growing poppy and making greater profits by growing the spice saffron.

    Great stuff! Good on these people – looks like an excellent alternative to poppy!
    I can’t help thinking of “Absolutely Fabulous” though, and Saffy…. 🙂
