The Afghan Ladies National Football Team

May 19, 2011

In Afghanistan there are many who object to women participating in any kind of sport. None more so than the Afghan Ladies Football Team who have many obstacles to overcome. Not all of them are merely practical though; the women practice and play behind guarded doors and face the all-too real threat of attack and retribution. Brett Turner of natochannel.tv follows the women through one of their training sessions.

Great! Good on them – a group of wonderful young women!
I hope that in the years to come, it will not be necessary for them to play indoors and need to be guarded.
