Poppy eradication teams work without ISAF support
In Helmand’s Nad-e Ali District, the poppy eradication teams have been working without direct support from ISAF for the first time. Instead, they’ve been protected by the Afghan Police and Army, with ISAF ready to help out only in extreme circumstances. And according to the District Governor, Afghan forces are capable of taking over security for the district completely, they just need more numbers.
BFBS journalist Charlotte Cross recently joined the ANA, ANP and poppy eradication teams as they embarked on what is ultimately a major milestone in the battle against the drug harvest and transition towards a more stable agricultural and economic future.
