‘Could the Insurgents be defeated in Afghanistan?’

April 7, 2011

‘Is it possible that the Taliban might be losing in Afghanistan? What would that mean?’

BBC Newsnight’s defence editor Mark Urban spent time here in March and during that time he visited the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand province, where commanders believe they have forced insurgents out.

I think it’ll be a long road to defeating the insurgents. Although Helmand is looking very promising, there are many other provinces which still seem to be *very* heavily infested with Taliban. This is particularly the case in the east.
I’d be very interested to also hear about Nato/ISAF progress (if any) in other provinces. I would*love* to see a “Paktika blog” or a “Wardak blog” just like this one. Does anyone know if blogs like those exist? They’d be really good to see if they do.
