3 Commando Brigade Replace 16 Air Assault Brigade in Helmand

March 16, 2011

Over the next four to five weeks, 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines will replace 16 Air Assault Brigade as the lead formation of British troops in Helmand province.

The deployment of 3 Commando Brigade and accompanying units will not result in any change to the UK’s established and enduring conventional force level of 9,500 personnel.

As well as the Marines themselves, elements of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force will deploy under the command of the Brigade. To view the list of all the main units involved, click HERE. To learn more about 3 Commando Brigade, click on the image above.

My husband has just arrived in Afghan, I have the most horrible empty feeling inside. Miss him so much already and still 6 months to go!!! Any tips from those who have done it all before? I’m quite busy at work all day and do sports activities in the evenings but as soon as I stop I think and it’s hard! 😦

      Hi Sophie
My boyfriend has been there since october 2010. Its very hard but unfortunatley you get into a routine of day to day life without them. You have to keep yourself really busy. Keep yourself surrounded by people that will cheer you up and not bring you down. Its times like these that you really discover who your friends are. You have to be warned that you may be speaking to him on the phone and it will cut midway. You may not hear from him for weeks. Or when he promises to call he may not (because op minimise). It wont be easy but you just have to plod on through. What regiment is your husband in? do you know what area he is in? *big hugs* Shinade x
