Captain James Anthony Townley dies in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Captain James Anthony Townley from the Corps of Royal Engineers died in Afghanistan on Friday 21 September 2012.
Captain Townley died in Camp Bastion, Helmand province, southern Afghanistan, from wounds sustained whilst serving at Forward Operating Base Shawqat.

OUR LOSS – HEAVENS GAIN. WE AGAIN THINK OF THE FAMILY AND COLLEAGUES OF THIS YOUNG SOLDIER AND KNOW THAT HIS WAR IS OVER – WE ALL GRIEVE FOR THESE YOUNG GIRLS AND BOYS WHO ARE WILLING TO SUPPORT OUR SAFETY WITH NO THOUGHT FOR THEMSELVES IN SO MUCH DANGER. THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE GREAT IN CARRYING OUT DIFFICULTIES THAT ARE PUT BEFORE THEM WITHOUT QUESTION. WE SALUTE THEM WITH HONOUR FROM THE MO AND JO TEAM SITU SOMERSET
RIP Captain James Anthony Townley. Your passing has left an irreplaceable gap in the lives of all who knew you.
