Lance Corporal Duane Groom killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Lance Corporal Duane Groom, The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed in Afghanistan on Friday 14 September 2012.

Lance Corporal Groom was killed in action when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

OUR LOSS – HEAVENS GAIN. OUR THOUGHTS OF COURSE ARE WITH HIS FAMILY, SO DEVASTATED BY THIS LOSS – WE THINK ALSO OF HIS COLLEAGUES AND IN THIS INSTANCE THE MEDICAL TEAM WHO TEND TO OUR YOUNG MEN. PRAYERS AND THANKS ARE SAID FOR ALL OF OUR TROOPS, WHO ARE JUST COMING HOME FROM THIS TOUR, AND ALSO OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH ALL OF THE BOYS AND GIRLS WHO ARE GOING OUT ON HERRICK 17. My deepest sympathies go out the family and friends of Lance Corporal Duane Groom. His name on the roll of honour is little recompense for a young man’s sacrifice. To those who serve along side please take every care. Good speed until you all return. RIP
