Soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards killed in Afghanistan

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed in Afghanistan today, 27 April 2012.

MOD crestThe soldier was serving as part of Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (North), on a patrol to disrupt insurgent movements in the area, when he was killed as a result of small-arms fire.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Major Ian Lawrence, said:

“Sadly, I must report that today a soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards has died of a gunshot wound sustained while on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

“The thoughts and prayers of all in the Task Force and Combined Force are with his family and friends at this tragic time.”

The soldier’s family have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.

    So much hurt & suffering, Heroes’ loved 1’s face, Soldier Stand tall, U did us proud. no-one can ever take ur place. RIP Hero

    One can only offer the deepest of sympathies to the family of the soldier who has lost his life. This sentiment of course is extended to all who served alongside. RIP

    i condolence to Ministry of Defence, buddies and loved ones of the soldier killed on Afghanistan. It his ever hard, even if we known that such moments may arrive, accepts those notices. Our faith aid us to have serenity, as we have certainity that he is now on the arms of The Father, who has embraced him.
